This workshop builds from the 2022 NIST workshop; it identified key challenges and opportunities for NIST that initiated a wide range of NIST Program for automated vehicles build capacity and help develop measurement science, standards and performance measures for this complex and interdisciplinary field. NIST and many stakeholders see these workshops as vital to the future of automated vehicles. Road AVs are expected to significantly affect key aspects of daily life. However, these complex systems can pose security risks if they do not work as expected. Thus, industry and government agencies are seeking to develop new measurement science to characterize the performance of these systems to help reduce risks for producers and consumers.
